The Wayside School Series by Louis Sachar

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ⭐

These books have been around for a while, but I only started reading them last year when I read them to a first grade class as a volunteer at my kids' school. The children LOVED them. They are off-beat and hilarous stories that really grab kids' attention. After reading them in school, I started reading them to my own kids who loved them just as much.

Each book has thirty stories divided into chapters about the goings-on at Wayside School, a school that was accidentally built sideways. It should have one story with thirty classrooms, but it's thirty stories with a classroom on each floor! Each story is fun and silly that children and parents both love.

Since the first book was written in the seventies, there are a few politically incorrect words used that might make the modern parent cringe a little bit, but it's nothing over-the-top.

I do tend to focus on books with important lessons about important topics, and I don't really plan on deviating from that much as I write these reviews. So, let's just say this one teaches us all to stop taking life so seriously! It's good to laugh and have fun, be ridiculous, and find the joy in silly stories. We love love love these books at our house for those very reasons.
